Bhubaneswar: In a recent turn of events, Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy has suspended two more Congress MLAs, Tara Prasad Bahinipati and Ramesh Chandra Jena, for a week due to their disruptive behavior. This decision follows their protest near the Speaker’s podium, where they were beating gongs to draw attention to the pressing issue of women’s safety in the state. It’s worth noting that just yesterday, 12 Congress MLAs faced similar suspensions for the same reasons, leaving the party without any representation in the House. With the suspensions of Bahinipati and Jena, all 14 Congress MLAs are now prohibited from attending the Assembly for the next seven days. The Congress party has been vocal about the increasing crimes against women in Odisha, calling for the establishment of a House committee to tackle this critical issue.
