Tax Recovery Officials Conduct Raids At Bharat Motors’ Branches In Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneswar: Around 30 tax officials, split into five teams, carried out the raids at Bharat Motors’ branches in Mancheswar, Pahala and Laxmisagar areas.

The Commercial Tax & Goods and Services Tax (CT & GST) (Recovery) officials on Wednesday raided at least three premises of Bharat Motors in Bhubaneswar over Rs 38 crore entry tax arrears.

As per reports, 30 tax officials, split into five teams, carried out the raids at Bharat Motors’ branches in Mancheswar, Pahala and Laxmisagar areas.

As per reports, Bharat Motors had moved the Supreme Court seeking exemption from the entry tax. However, the SC ruled that the said dealers will have to pay the tax arrears.

Later, when Bharat Motors, which is an automobile dealer, failed to pay the arrear dues as per the installment fixed by the Commissioner, effective April 2020, the government officials raided the three branches in Bhubaneswar.

The entry tax payment by the establishment has reportedly been pending for the period from 2008 to April 2017.

The officials have reportedly attached the movable properties by carrying out seizure of two-wheelers and four-wheelers, both passenger and heavy vehicles, at the three branches of the company, said reports.

The attached immovable properties include 1.8 acres of land and the building on the said land at Pahala, the Tax Recovery Officer, Joint Commissioner, Enforcement Wing, Bhubaneswar said in a statement.
