Associate of D Brothers Arrested For Extortion Bid At Gunpoint In Cuttack

Cuttack: Chauliaganj Police have arrested a close associate of gangster “D Brothers” on charges of extortion bid from the manager of a business firm in Cuttack’s Sikharpur area.

The accused has been identified as Kuna alias Kuna Chandra Swain (46), a resident of Nanakar area under Jagatpur Police Station limits. A 7.65 mm pistol, five live bullets, two mobile phones, and a car was seized from him, the police said.

According to reports, Hrusikesh Mohanty works as a manager at an office that belongs to a well-known businessman, Sourabh Pradhan, of Sikharpur area. On August 19, like every day, Hrusikesh was busy at work when accused Kuna accompanied by some of his aides arrived at the office in a car. Before anyone could ascertain anything, Kuna put Hrusikesh at gunpoint and demanded Rs 5 lakhs.

The accused also threatened Hrusikesh to kill the owner of the firm if he fails to give the demanded amount with 24 hours. Following this, Hrusikesh lodged a complaint with Chauliaganj Police and a case (277) was registered under Sections  387, 294, 34 of the IPC & Sec. 25/27 of the Arms Act.
