Two new crematoriums to come up in Cuttack

CUTTACK: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) will come up with two model crematoriums here. Around Rs 1.2 crore will be spent on the projects.

The crematorium coming up at Satichoura will be equipped with CNG gas. while wood will be used at Nimpur. “Land has been identified for both the crematoriums,” said executive engineer,

Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), D R Tripathy. “The CNG furnace will be erected on the premises of Satichaura cremation ground. Use of CNG will reduce pollution. It will be cost effective too,” said Tripathy.

The CMC official said, “The cost of operating the electric unit and LPG crematorium is very high. The CNG unit can be switched on and off on the basis of requirement making it economical. The crematorium at Nimpur has been designed to use less amount of wood. A special team has been engaged in the project to make it more convenient and affordable.” The model crematoriums will be ready by August, said Tripathy. Model crematoriums will have facilities like changing room, bathing and toilet complex, proper illumination, frequent sanitation and drinking water. A dedicated space for storage of wood and a gallery will be constructed for people to witness the cremation.
