More C-Section Deliveries In Private Hospitals In Odisha: Minister
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has just pointed out a notable gap in the rates of caesarean deliveries between private and government hospitals in the state. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling shared in the Assembly that an eye-opening 81.06% of deliveries in private hospitals were surgical in the 2023-24 period. That translates to a whopping 113,598 out of 140,126 deliveries being done via caesarean sections. On the flip side, government hospitals reported a much lower caesarean delivery rate of 33.08% for the same year, with 195,578 out of 591,185 deliveries. This pattern mirrors last year’s figures, which showed private hospitals with a caesarean rate of 77.46% and government hospitals at 30.73%. These numbers clearly indicate that private hospitals in Odisha are performing caesarean deliveries at a much higher rate than their government counterparts.
